- Plan and conduct investigations for assigned complaints while managing a diverse caseload, making decisions on the conduct of investigations and adhering to the principles of procedural fairness.
- Research and analyze the allegations and circumstances of complaints.
- Interpret applicable legislation, case law, jurisprudence, precedents, and previous decisions of the Privacy Commissioners, recent policy positions, announcements and statements by the OPC's senior management.
- Gather, scan and store all the data, notes, information and evidence collected into the Case Management System provided by the office; and document all events and decisions in same system
- Exercise the powers delegated by the Privacy Commissioner during the investigation
- Develop recommended solutions or resolutions for OPC approval, review and comment
- Negotiate agreements between parties or act as a conciliator to resolve the complaint in line with granted authorities
- Write draft Investigation Reports and draft Letters of Findings for the Privacy Commissioner or his delegated authority for review and comments
- prepare, on approval of the draft, final Reports and Letters of Findings for the Commissioner or his delegated authority, and send signed correspondence to the appropriate parties; and
- Participate in meetings with, representatives of other branches, and the Commissioner to discuss approaches to complaints or issues that require careful management
